Intrinsic
Keeping on the theme of sharing from my past self with authenticity and vulnerability, I found in my archives this poem I wrote shortly after publishing my endometriosis story on Medium in 2019 (see previous Brightness Blog post to read it). In a rare occurrence of feeling poetic, I wrote the words below to communicate to myself and others the intrinsic self-worth and value we each have simply by being born on this planet. I thought I’d share what I wrote back then as it highlights the theme of inner BRIGHTNESS that I felt deep in my soul without being aware of how it would transform into my life’s work. Our metamorphosis as ever-changing humans is beautiful and meaningful. I hope this sparks poetic inspiration to express your own inner brightness.
“She lives life in poetry
Misunderstood and misguided
Waiting for clarity
Remaining in confusion
Searching for truth
Finding more questions
She stands humbly confident
Her head held high
Above the ocean of uncertainty
Fiercely facing the frigid waves
Soaking up salty and satisfying lessons of life
Her body shaking from the cold reality
Yet her resolve unwavering despite the storm
She radiates peace and acceptance
Regardless of the scars she bears
Her mind is strong and resilient
No darkness too thick to penetrate
Endless love to conquer all fears
Her soul is old and prepared to thrive
She manifests her brightest desires
Into inspiring reality and truth
Allowing her soul to be purely free
To dream unrestrained
Creating her present in light of her past
Embracing life’s vivid lessons
Wisdom flourishing in her pulsing veins
She leads those who ponder and question
Guiding her healthy heart along the way
Acknowledging the journey of self-growth
Is ongoing and beautifully patterned
To vibrantly form the essence of her soul
To intrinsically heal the misunderstood parts of her
Her well-founded intuition leading her heart gently
She gathers those she loves and nurtures
Happily emitting positivity and encouragement to all
Remaining steadfastly vigilant on her journey of discovery
Adventure merrily calling her intrepid soul
Encouraging those who dare to honestly listen
With a voice of serenity and quiet confidence
To always explore the depths of your soul
Remaining both student and teacher
Evoking truth in the midst of the world’s lies
She is brave and bold
Brilliantly beautiful
Basking in the radiance of the sun
Believing her life has infinite meaning
Broadening her horizons with each passing day
Blatantly aware of the power within her
Brushing off the bee stings of insecurity
Balancing her life with truths held tight
Becoming who she is
By unashamedly and fearlessly being herself”
